Remodeling the bathroom is one of the best investments you can make to your home and will bring a great return on your investment. Besides deciding on cabinets, sinks, toilets, and wall color another important decision is what kind of lighting you want to incorporate into your design scheme and how much room you have for placing the lighting.
It was once considered "vogue" to only have task lighting in the bathroom, which, thankfully has changed. Remember those big bulb lights that if you looked at them you were blind? I don't know about you but that did not help me while I was rushing in the morning to get ready. Today, we have so many choices its mind boggling and a tad confusing if you don't have any idea of what your looking for.
When considering your bathroom project, it's really important to have an idea of what you want or would like and what space you have. I once did a remodeling job, luckily for me, it was my own bathroom, and I was busy picking out tiles, a whirlpool tub, designer sinks, cabinets and counter tops that I really didn't consider lighting. I figured I'd pick that out later. Well..... this remodeling job was a major one, you know the kind where you tear down walls and move things around. Anyway, everything seemed to be going smoothly, as smoothly as a remodeling job could go. Electricians, plumbers all working, painters swiftly transforming my boring bath into one fresh out of a catalog, my whirlpool tub in place... and I decided on the lighting I wanted. I wanted good lights for the sink area and coordinating lights for effect. I ordered the lights and was really excited for my bathroom to be complete. The lights arrived and I couldn't wait to get those installed. I gave them to the electrician and he looked at me as if I were some creature from outer space and said, "we can't install these." I almost fainted right on the spot and said "we have to and thats that. Well I did get the lights up but not before we had to practically tear down the walls in order to move electrical wires which cost a small fortune and was not in my estimated budget. So... the moral of the story, don't be like me! Plan early about the lighting situation during the design phase.
